Nzema Community Fuming With Fire Over Prof. Gadzekpo's Comment On LGBTQ+
Well I don't know whether to finally admit that school knowledge doesn't necessarily make you a wise person in life as clearly Professor Audrey Gadzekpo in her recent comment about the LGBTQ+ anti-gay bill has gotten to prove that point very clearly.
In her comments she claims as a research person and a professor she knows the cultures of two particular tribes in Ghana being the Ga people and Nzema people accept gays. This comment by her doesn't sit well at all with my people. Yes, I said my people because I myself I am an Nzema from Princess Town in the Western Region.
I don't know how old the Professor is herself to be making that assertion or the evidences she has to be justifying that kind of comment but in my more than four decades of existence on earth never have I for once heard that our culture as Nzema people accept gays as part of our culture.
I can confidently and emphatically say the Professor has lied and has not applied common sense at all in making such public pronouncement. She has clearly attacked my people and information I have on the grounds shows that the elders of my community are not happy with her at all.
After all that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah did for Ghana, what has been done in the Nzema community by all governments after him to show their appreciation for the fight for independence in Ghana only for this apology of a Professor to come and make such a statement about the tribe that the first President of Ghana comes from?
For now she might think she has just said it but what about if one day in my children's school one of their mates insults them to be gay people since they're Nzema children because of what this Professor has said about Nzema people? Can we understand the weight and the gravity that the lack of application of wisdom from this Professor can cause future generations of Nzemas to come? Can she erase this from people's memories about the Nzema people?
She could not concentrate on her tribe and speak evil about them but veered into the Nzema lane to attack our people, our culture and our personality. Has the Professor being to Nzema before to see how we live as decent people? Has she ever heard in her life apart from stories of prominence about people like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ackah Blay Miezah, Kwaku Ackah etc that Nzema people are usually involved in any social vices here in Ghana?
I am an Nzema with both parents from Nzema so the Nzema blood runs through my veins as an indigenous cultural person of the great land of my ancestors in the coast of Western Region of Ghana and not for once do I know any gay or lesbian who is an Nzema. Neither do we have any culture in Nzema that teaches gay practices. In that regard the Professor is a complete liar and an advocate for divisiveness in this country.
I understand she is a Board Chair to a government democratic institution and a former Dean of Communication at the University of Ghana. If Ghanaians and the government wants to respect and honour the memory and legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, this Professor should be relieved of her post with immediate effect. She is rather a terrorist to our democracy, history and truth in Ghana. Such a person cannot promote unity in governance and clearly bias minded. She is not fit to lead an institution as she has demonstrated a highly irresponsible leadership.
People of her calibre should not be allowed to indoctrinate any sect of Ghanaians whether in the lecture halls or giving the microphone to speak in public. Does she want to create tension between the Nzema people and the Voltarians as it exist between them and the Asantes? Does she want to insinuate that the first President of Ghana came from a culture that practices gay or perhaps Ghana's first President was a gay?
Imagine the offence that is gradually set in our Nzema communities by her and how our elders are fuming with fire over her comments? Does she know where this could lead to? Does she understand democracy of which institution I understand she heads? Does she know what started war in Rwanda and that it was around some of this same irresponsible tribal comments between the Hutsis and the Tutsis?
Professor Gadzekpo has bitten more than she can chew by making those pronouncement about Nzema people. By her research we want her to mention one Nzema community or name an Nzema person she evidently knows practiced gay in Nzema? She should specifically tell us which part of the Nzema culture projects and accepts gay and how is that culture practically practiced?
Do we have gay parties or seminars in Nzema or do we have gay communities or are the gods of the land gays? She should tell us evidently because an assault against the people of Nzema and our culture is an assault against our gods and the blood of our ancestors and Nzema people will not sit aloof and watch her loose tongue and loud mouth go scot free. She will be dealt with if she doesn't come out to specifically apologize and mention that she lied on Nzema people and that she said this for only attention or to gain popularity for whatever reason.
Can she say this against the Asantes or the people of Akyem or the Northern Region? Or can anyone in Ghana say this against the Voltarians and go scot free? Clearly this Professor does not respect our tradition and our ancestors and we will make our gods answer her and call her to order if she doesn't come out to retract her statement as soon as possible.
I have some audios and responses from some of our traditional leaders in Nzema to her unsavoury comments about Nzema people on this matter and if anyone knows her whereabout she should be called to order else the Nzema community will not deal lightly with her at all on this matter.
We intend to use all the necessary diplomatic means to reach out to her to issue a statement to retract her falsehood or else she will have herself to blame if she remains silent on this matter.
We have read her apologies to the Ga Adamgbe community and it is more insulting to us Nzemas because we became a by-product of that apology for it was not targeted at us but only the Ga people. We only became a collateral to the apology and not that she intended to apologise to Nzema people.
We the Nzemas are not weak but very gentle and decent people. If just one of us could fight for independence in Ghana and wanted to do so for the whole of Africa then she should imagine a thousand of us? This very irresponsible professor should not joke with the people of Nzema, we give her time to swallow her words back.
We issue a stern warning to her to specifically come out and apologize to the Nzema community about these lies or else our elders will take an action against her in a way that is equally demeaning as the unguarded statement she has made about the people of my land.
God bless Mother Ghana and the people of Ghana and rid us of such divisive people such as Professor Audrey Gadzekpo. Her own family, tribe and people should call her to order. We are awaiting her response on this matter soon enough.
