TRIBUTE TO MY BROTHER THE LATE TERRY BOUNCHAKA

Today the late Terry Bouchaka would have celebrated his birthday if he was alive. May God keep his soul. Myself and him dates way back in Ewit Greenwich Classical Academy, Dansoman. We were best of friends, we did everything together till he left for Adisco and I to Snapsco. As fate would have it, he continued with music and won the Embassy Club Pleasure, I think around 2001 and 2002.

He released his first album in 2003, the same year death laid his icy hands on my brother. We are the same age but I will say he is a senior since he was born in March 23rd and I in September 16th but we were all born the same year. We fought alot especially around his music when I use to tease his lyrics.

I remember one day he said he wanted me to help him write an Nzema song, whiles we were on it, he offended me with something he said then I told him every lyrics I taught him was insults in Nzema and that if he records it he will be insulting Ghanaians. Infact that day I regretted because of his reaction, he was very furious and I had to leave his house that day.

We didn't speak for sometime then we made peace and got back as friends. I never took his music business serious even after he had won all the competitions until I saw my brother's reaction that day, then I knew my brother was really serious about this music thing.

From that day I knew Terry was born to do music nothing else. It's like that in life you can be close to someone for a very long time but you don't take what they do serious until they react with it one day. I had been with Terry for years, it was that day I took his passion for his music serious. So I wasn't surprised when eventually he blew up.

I remember him telling me after he went to London and came back with his first car bought from music, he looked at me and said Quasonic (as he use to call me), I told you I will do this now see, music is my life and I said yes my brother you are right forgive me. We laughed and joked all through the day with Rasta and King Ayisoba in front of their house. It was just a week later he died in the accident. Hmm!

He would come to rehearse in my hall those days. I remember when Shell Tox was used by his father to "decorate" his head because he was making noise with the music at home (that's how I use to tease him), it was my place he did all his rehearsals because his Dad a Jehovah's witness was against his music. He overcame all those challenges and emerged as one of the best musicians in Ghana. He was on every programme in Ghana, his last programme at Legon is what killed him in an accident around Okponglo Ghana Standards Boards.

I wore black for Terry for one solid year every single day I was named Sir Black by my students back then. His death really affected me alot infact I stopped living for sometime because I told myself if all my struggle will end up in death like this why should I do anything with my life. I got really depressed by Terry's death I begun heavily drinking back then. Fast forward with time I had to accept he is gone and here we are today celebrating his birthday.

May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace. It was Terry's dream to hit the Platinum and the musician he wanted to meet most was Shaggy of Bombastic fame. The year Shaggy came to Ghana Terry was already dead, that day I cried because I know if my brother was alive he would have been on his programme or probably recorded with him. At the time of Terry's career Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were not even on the music scene.

I remember meeting King Ayisoba in his house, they use to practice the "korlogo" there. Today, King Ayisoba is who he is because of Terry, Shatta Wale is who he is because of Terry. At that time one of his greatest rivals was Samini Batman. I was arranging for him to meet Bias Kuffuor, Obuor for them to record a track because Obuor former MUSIGHA President is my friend.

We had so many plans to execute but death cut it short. I don't know where Reagan came from into the scene but I think Terry should have made me his Manager but probably he thought we were mates and had farmiliarised for too long. I wasn't happy he didn't choose me back then to manage him but he is still my brother and I loved him dearly.

My brother it is well, rest well, may God keep your soul till we meet in paradise.
