Political Immaturity In Ghana

I sense alot of immaturity in our Ghanaian politics it's as if our Politicians don't know their left from their right. I don't exclude anyone. How can you pay allowances that are not supposed to be paid, it is then refunded and some are calling for audit and that former first ladies should also return their allowances?

The whole system is confused and nobody knows what is right or wrong. It has to take one politician to wake up from bed early in the morning, find a loop hole in an area in the system goes to parliament, raises the issue and the whole of Ghana will sway to that direction. Opposition will also go and sleep think about it come back another time and raise a rebuttal and the whole country moves in another direction.

It then become a subject of discussion, social media will also takeover and the whole nation's focus is shifted to something that doesn't contribute to economic growth and development. It adds nothing to our per capita income and GDP. After the whole confusion is sorted out, we carry our portmanteau outside to go and borrow. What waste of idealogical thinking and economic prowess!

Our local media Journalist will also be making a fuzz of it on radio and TV, everyone is expressing their opinion not based on facts but sentiments and politics. It's a very muddy situation and we need some decency, decorum and political serenity. For years the whole country has been acting unconstitutional by paying presidential spousal allowances and we are not ashamed of this but rather we want to be making politics out of it instead of correcting the situation.

So Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Samira Bawumia didn't know they were not entitled to allowances but they collected it and now they are returning it? I mean let us get serious here, this is a whole country and those governing us don't know if money must be paid or not so now they make a mistake by paying and now it is normal for the beneficiaries to refund it and it looks okay. How many more mistakes of payment have we made as a country?

A whole Minister of Information is asking when Lodina Mahama will refund hers? Do we have a leader at all in Ghana and do we understand governance and payments? In all this the one that should bear the greatest blame is Controller and Accountant General but nobody is talking about them.

As Accountants, what authorization did they have to be paying allowances to first and second ladies? What legal basis do they have for paying presidential spousal allowance? If someone can just take Controller and Accountant General to court over this issue, public servants and civil servants payments will follow the right procedure the next time.
