GES now promoting Rastafarianism in schools

Not too long ago, two students although they qualified for admission into Achimota, were denied admission because they showed up with dreadlocks and the only excuse is that they are Rastafarians so they should be allowed to go to school with their dreadlocks. The matter gained grounds and came to the corridors of GES, the final verdict on the issue by GES is that Achimota should admit them. We all very well understand that you hair style is not a yardstick to measure your intelligence but in every institution too there are rules and regulations otherwise the managing director of a bank should be allowed to go to office in a boxer shorts.

This decision to accept Rastafarians to school is very unacceptable and GES is very wrong to allow admission of Rastafarian students to Achimota High School. It's a slap to the face of all rules and regulations in every school in Ghana. What GES should rather do is to establish an SHS for all Rastafarian students and give them Rastafarian teachers too if they don't want to shave their heads. May be they should also be allowed to roll and puff the ganja in the classrooms in addition and bath with the weed. No one is against Rastafarians but their influence on our innocent children. What do you want parents to do if their wards come back from school saying they are also now Rastafarians and that they are going to carry dreadlocks?

Where else should they be allowed to be admitted? Banks, military, police, hospitals etc? Judge for yourselves. That said Samson and Samuel in the Bible had dreadlocks. Samuel was a Judge in Israel but he carried dreadlocks because his mother Hannah vowed that no blade will touch his hair and he will be given as loan to God. The dreadlocks Samuel kept was a vow the mother took. It was Samuel who was the first King maker of Israel. He anointed Saul as first King and David as second King. So the reason for the dreadlock was because of a vow.

In the case of Samson, God himself told his mother that for Samson to have great strength and might, he should keep dreadlocks. He should never shave his head. Delilah will do the Philistines a favour by giving him a nice down cut which exposed him and the nation Israel to his enemies. In summary the two classic dreadlock situations in the Bible was one for the reason of a vow and another for the reason of a commandment from God. My question is this, what divine reason does the two Achimota students have to keep a dreadlock if there are school rules and regulations to be followed? Can you keep your beard in the Police service or the military where it is expected for you to shave especially as a Junior officer?

GES as a matter of urgency must withdraw their decision and order the said students to shave their dreadlocks before entering the classroom. The hair can always grow back it's not as if they are going to die if they shave their heads or because they have a divine mandate like Samuel and Samson. After they have gone to the whole Ghana education system they can keep the dreadlocks to the souls of their feet if they so wish. The agitation by school authorities and parents is not directed towards the two boys but the fear of influence on the other students.
