Covid-19 Series : Finance Minister Seeks Approval Of Ghs1.2 billion Certificate Of Urgency
Today an emergency meeting has been conducted in parliament where the minister of finance, Ken Ofori Atta seeks approval from the finance committee of parliament an amount of Ghs1.2billion certificate of urgency to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic. Breakdown of this amount as given by the minister are as follows from sources :
1. Finance for small and micro businesses Ghs600 million
2. Water and Sanitation Ghs200 million
3. Support for health workers Ghs300 million, which include 50% of basic salary to be paid to frontline workers announced by the president.
4. Support to households Ghs280 million
5. Tax waiver for health workers Ghs241 million
6. Provisions for National Buffer Stock Ghs40 million
This certificate of urgency is expected to be withdrawn from the stabilization fund which is part of the fund set up from the revenue gotten from Ghana's crude oil.
It stands to reason that this amount is needed to cover the three months period as announced by the president for April, May and June 2020.
Majority has asked for a breakdown of those who the frontline workers are and also for the free utility bill be extended to electricity for the next 3 months.
Meanwhile as of today Wednesday 08th April, 2020 Ghana case counts has hit 313 from the last confirmed cases of 287 cases. Breakdown of the confirmed cases are as follows:
Greater Accra 274 cases
Ashanti Region 25 cases
Northern Region 10 cases
Upper West Region 1 case
Upper East Region 1 Case
Central Region 1 case
Figures from Ghana Health suggests that majority of covid-19 cases falls within the ages of 25 to 59 years which represents the active population class.
From 21st March to 25th March 2020, 1,030 travellers that were put under mandatory quarantine as sample cases had 79 cases test positive, 951 test negative and out of the 951 cases 26 cases were converted to positive cases at their exit screening.
So far we have 3 recovery cases, 37 people are responding well to treatment, 74 further are responding to treatment and 31 cases has been discharged and being monitored from home.
Enhance contact tracing and testing from confirmed cases stood at 11,016 sample cases out of which 37 cases came out positive. Enhance contact tracing are those who have come in contact with those who have tested positive.
So far 6 deaths has been recorded in this pandemic as one more death was recorded as of yesterday at 23:13 pm data obtained from Ghana Health Service.
