Covid-19 Series : Alhaji Seidu Agongo On Class Fm 91.3 Fm

One of the great business moguls and philanthropist of our time in the person of Alhaji Seidu Agongo has for the first time on air granted an interview to the Class Breakfast show on Class Fm 91.3 Fm. Alhaji Seidu Agongo a very successful business man is the proud owner of Class Media Group (CMG), a media giant consisting of Accra Fm, Class Fm, Number One Fm, Kumasi Fm, Adehye Fm, Ho Fm, Tamale Fm, Sunyani Fm, Takoradi Fm etc and CTV. Since the inception of the media giant, they have a performed creditably and have made very positive impact in soceity which has won himself and the group so many awards.

Mr. Agongo a devout Muslim will stop at nothing than to see orphans, single mothers and widows living a good life in soceity. He freely gives to such courses and his heartbeat is towards philanthropy. During this Covid-19 lockdown he has put in place through Class Fm, one of the best radio stations in Ghana, a programme to identify single mothers and widows who might need some form of financial support to fend for themselves.

He believes that most of these women who are petty traders and bread winners of their family will have nothing to depend on as they will not be able to engage in active trade during this lockdown period, so he wants to provide them a helping hand by sending them MoMo upon meeting certain conditions and criteria.

His criteria is you make a video of yourself as a widow or as a single mother describing your situation and how difficult it is to fend for your children during this crisis which will be forwarded to a team to examine after which they make contacts with the potential beneficiaries to further interview and find out the authenticity of their stories. Once they qualify for help, without delay MoMo is sent to them the following day. He has team of auditors on the ground to ensure that applicants do not abuse this privilege fraudulently. So far the widows and single parents they have reached have so much a pathetic story that it breaks his heart so he believes contributing his widows mite in their support is a good call.

Asked if he will do same for men, he neither refused or admitted but stressed the fact that his focus is more on women and children since they are more vulnerable in soceity and suffer most during wars and crisis times. He believes when women are empowered financially they can sustain the family better but admonish men to rather work harder to take care of their responsibilities and that he has never heard that someone had died from hardwork before. He gave this same advice to the youth. He said they should not be in a rush to make it overnight but be diligent in their employment. He asked them to remain faithful, loyal and work hard if someone offers them an opportunity to work for them. He made further reference to the Quran which admonishes people to work hard and pray more.

Mr. Seidu who is also very passionate about employment creation has employed thousands of people in the country in his various businesses. The former owner of Heritage bank, despite his challenges he faced when his bank was taken over by government has not back down in his employment  and philanthropy agenda as he continues to create jobs for thousands of people in this country and feeds so many families. He said he gives not because he has so much but only wants to make a good impact in people's lives.

He is of the view that the only way you can make impact with your wealth is by helping other people in soceity. He said it will be difficult for you to trace your lineage if you should count down your bloodline but with helping people it transcends bloodlines and a trajectory to make the next generation better. He also believes helping children in their education is key to aliviating poverty in the family and the country so he pays so many school fees of children and had awarded many scholarships to needy children. His love for children made him put up a thirty bed children's ward at the Korle-bu teaching hospital some years back.

He further gave a goodwill message to his fellow country men and Muslims in Hausa, a local northern language in summary to all that he had granted the host in the interview. He admonished all to stay safe and well and abide by all the programmes and policies put in place by government to fight this Covid-19 pandemic. He urged all to be law abiding and uphold the precepts of Islam and admonishings of the National Chief Imam.
